A Liverpool player has sustained a significant injury that will keep him out for the rest of the calendar year.
Manager Arne Slot is already facing several absences, including Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota, Conor Bradley, Federico Chiesa, and Harvey Elliott, ahead of the Champions League match against RB Leipzig.
While most players are expected to return soon, young player Luke Chambers, who was on loan, will not be back until 2025 due to a serious back injury. Chambers, who had been on a season-long loan at Wigan, will now return to Liverpool for rehabilitation.
Wigan manager Shaun Maloney confirmed the 20-year-old’s injury, stating that he will be sidelined for several months, extending into the new year. Although surgery is not needed, the injury will require a lengthy recovery under Liverpool’s supervision.
Maloney expressed his disappointment, explaining that the back issue has been ongoing and is not a recent injury.
Chambers had been performing well at Wigan, with Maloney labeling him their best player this season. It’s a tough setback for Chambers, who was thriving in Wigan’s starting lineup. After making his first start for Liverpool in a Europa League match last year, he was praised by Trent Alexander-Arnold for his great potential.
Back injuries can be concerning for young players, but hopefully Chambers will receive the necessary treatment and recover fully without any future setbacks.
