Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa is reportedly contemplating a move away from Anfield just months after his arrival.
The 26-year-old transferred from Juventus to Liverpool in August for a fee of £10 million, plus an additional £2.5 million in potential add-ons, making him the club’s only significant signing during a quiet transfer window.
Initially, the transfer was viewed as low-risk due to Chiesa’s experience in Italy and the modest cost.
However, his stint at Liverpool has been difficult. Injuries have plagued him, limiting him to just three appearances, with his last match being the 5-1 Carabao Cup win over West Ham.
Ahead of a Champions League match against RB Leipzig, head coach Arne Slot noted Chiesa’s struggle to adapt to the faster pace of English football.
“He missed the entire pre-season, which I’ve mentioned before, and now he’s in a league where the intensity may be even greater than in Italy,” Slot stated prior to Liverpool’s 1-0 victory in Germany.
“It’s not just about the league differences, but missing pre-season makes it tough for any player to match the team’s intensity, especially with the busy match schedule.”
“It’s hard to say, but it’s really disappointing for him to be consistently in and out of training. I sympathize with him.”
Recent reports indicate that Chiesa might be considering a return to Italy just months after joining Liverpool. According to Calciomercato [via FourFourTwo], he could be loaned out in January, with three Serie A clubs—Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Roma—interested in taking a “calculated” risk on him.
Chiesa has remained silent about his situation, and it’s uncertain whether he would consider a return to Italy so soon after joining Liverpool.
