Manchester United fans specifically criticized one player after their disappointing 2-1 defeat to West Ham United at the London Stadium.
Entering the match, United aimed to build on their recent 2-1 victory against Brentford. However, they failed to convert several first-half chances, with Diogo Dalot’s glaring miss exemplifying the team’s struggles in London.
The situation deteriorated when substitute Crysencio Summerville scored for West Ham in the 74th minute, taking advantage of Alejandro Garnacho’s turnover.
Although Ten Hag’s team briefly equalized with Casemiro’s header in the 81st minute, West Ham clinched the win when Jarrod Bowen converted a penalty in the 92nd minute, following a foul by Matthijs de Ligt on Danny Ings.
Fans took to social media to express their disappointment with Garnacho’s performance. According to Sofascore, he missed the target three times and lost possession 16 times during the match.
One fan commented, “Ten Hag treats Rashford like a bench player while Garnacho gets star treatment. The manager has lost his mind.” Another noted, “Garnacho’s finishing is terrible—he’s our worst forward.” A third remarked, “He always shoots as if aiming for the roof.” Others argued that his time on the pitch was undeserved, with one fan stating, “He provides nothing but effort. No quality, yet he’s always playing.”
The loss leaves Manchester United in 14th place in the Premier League, just seven points above the relegation zone, and underscores a troubling trend with only one win in their last eight matches across all competitions.
Next, United will face Leicester City at home in the Carabao Cup on October 30, followed by a Premier League clash with Chelsea on November 3.
