Reports indicate that Manchester United has not ruled out the possibility of contacting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for a return to the club after Erik ten Hag’s departure.
Ten Hag left earlier on Monday after over two years at the helm, with his final match ending in a 2-1 defeat to West Ham, which featured a controversial late penalty.
Ten Hag took over in the summer of 2022, following Solskjaer’s tenure and Ralf Rangnick’s interim management at the end of the 2021/22 season.
According to the Manchester Evening News, club officials are worried that the compensation owed to Ten Hag may restrict their options for a new manager. This leaves the door open for possibly re-engaging Solskjaer, who has been out of a managerial role since his dismissal in November 2021.
It’s still unclear whether United would consider Solskjaer for a coaching position or as Ten Hag’s direct replacement.
Additionally, Danish outlet Tipsbladet reported last month that Solskjaer turned down an offer to coach the Denmark men’s national team while in talks with an unnamed “big club.”
